Processing Software Integrator

Hengelo | Hybrid | 32–40 hours per week | Bachelor’s/Master’s degree (HBO/WO)

Thales designs state-of-the-art radar systems and optical sensors that form part of a comprehensive, integrated defense system. The product portfolio ranges from small, portable radars—for applications such as border or site surveillance—to complex four-dimensional radars capable of detecting small objects at ranges of hundreds to thousands of kilometers.

Within the software department, the Sensor Processing group is responsible for developing the software for optimal control and digital processing functions within the sensors. Work is carried out in multidisciplinary teams alongside specialists in systems engineering, functional sensor design and the design and implementation of real-time systems.

The Sensor Processing group develops the complete radar software. This encompasses various domains, including radar system control, the coordination of radar transmissions, and the processing of digital data streams. The ultimate goal is to detect, classify, and track specific objects—such as aircrafts and drones—and display them on an operator console.

The software architecture is highly modular, supporting the development of robust and evolvable systems. Development takes place in Agile teams supported by a modern development pipeline. The teams themselves handle the ongoing development and maintenance of the architecture, the development pipeline, and the Agile process.

Your role

Our radar software features an extensive, modular architecture where multiple Agile teams simultaneously develop and improve the software. As a Processing Software Integrator, you oversee the coherence of these modules. You integrate and test the software belonging to these modules, ensuring they function seamlessly to form a reliable radar system. In this role, you work across teams and module boundaries; you understand the technical dependencies within the software landscape and grasp how the various modules are interconnected.

What will you do?

  • Integrate and validate software modules within our complex real-time radar processing systems;
  • Analyze integration issues and propose structural solutions for complex software integration problems;
  • Set up and maintain build, integration, and deployment pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, Maven, and Nexus;
  • Assess the impact of software changes and monitor the technical quality and stability of integrated software;
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and testers from various Scrum teams.

We operate using a hybrid model, with a split of 60% office-based and 40% remote work. However, due to the close collaboration and the nature of radar software testing involved in this position, a higher level of office presence is preferred. We offer flexible working hours and place a great deal of trust and freedom in how you organize your work week.

What do you bring?

  • For this role, we are looking for an experienced software professional accustomed to working in complex technical environments.
  • A completed Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (HBO or WO) in a field such as Technical Computer Science, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline;
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in software engineering or software integration within a similar technical environment;
  • Experience with large, complex real-time software systems and continuous integration;
  • Experience with C++ and/ or Java and Linux. Experience with Continuous integration, Jenkins, Artifactory Maven is favored as well.
  • Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.

What we offer

  • Salary based on Pay Scale 60 in accordance with the Metalektro-HP collective labor agreement.
  • 27 vacation days and 13 'ADV' days (reduced working hours) based on full-time employment; you can sell or purchase additional ADV days if desired.
  • Holiday allowance (8%); a fixed year-end bonus (2%); a variable profit-sharing bonus and expense allowances for working from home.
  • A mobility policy offering travel expense reimbursement and/or the use of an NS Business Card.
  • Pension accrual through our own pension fund; Thales contributes 60%.
  • The opportunity to personalize your employment conditions by exchanging certain salary components for other perks, such as gym memberships, a bicycle plan, union fees, etc.
  • Eligibility for a group discount on health insurance through one of our partners.
  • A challenging position within our high-tech, innovative work environment, with room for personal initiative and good ideas.
  • Ample opportunities for personal and professional growth within the organization—for example, in technical, commercial, or international areas.
  • Valuable international collaboration with colleagues from 68 different countries worldwide.
  • A pleasant workplace in a modern setting, with a focus on flexibility and a good work-life balance.

Curious about our technology?

Want to see what our software ultimately becomes a part of? The Dutch TV program ''Het Klokhuis'' filmed an episode with us explaining how radar works and how our technology is applied. Watch it here: https://hetklokhuis.nl/tv-uitzending/5579/radar (please note, it is in Dutch).

Additionally, Luke—one of our C++ Software Engineers—talks about his work within our radar domain. He works on one of the software building blocks that eventually come together to form the complete radar system. Interested?

Do you have extensive experience as a Software Engineer or Software Integrator, and do you find yourself energized by understanding how the entire software system of a radar fits together? If so, we’d love to hear from you.

Even if Hengelo isn't exactly around the corner for you, we’d still be happy to discuss the possibilities, for example providing support regarding relocation.
